What is the Loch Ness Monster?

Loch Ness is a large lake in Scotland where there have been many sightings of a large sea creature commonly known as the Loch Ness Monster. It is reported that the locals near Loch Ness Lake call the creature Nessie. People have reported seeing this sea creature in Loch Ness Lake since 565 AD to the present day.

Please note that the photo below is not an actual picture of the Loch Ness Monster, but an artist/photographers conception of what the animal might be like based on descriptions from reported sightings.

Is the Loch Ness Monster a Plesiosaur?

There are several theories about what the Loch Ness Monster is. Many people feel the whole thing is a hoax and that there is nothing in the lake at all. Others think that Nessie may be some sort of dinosaur, possibly a plesiosaur, a carnivorous aquatic animal that supposedly became extinct during the Cretaceous Period.

However, it is possible that not all of them became extinct as previously thought and that the Loch Ness Monster could be one of these animals. It wouldn't necessarily have to be the same animal each time it is sighted. If this animal species has survived all this time it is more likely that there is more than one of them. Because the Loch Ness Lake is connected to the ocean these animals could come and go at will. If these animals do spend most of their time in the ocean that would explain why no one ever finds evidence of their remains in the lake. If the Loch Ness Monster IS a plesiosaur it would make sense that it might spend more time in the ocean because plesiosaurs are/were marine animals.

Others argue that the water in Loch Ness Lake is too cold for the animal to be a plesiosaur because these animals were always believed to be cold-blooded.

It is also possible that the animal is not a plesiosaur, but an entirely different sort of dinosaur-like creature that we don't know much about that can tolerate the cold water temperature.

The ocean is a huge place and there are probably many aquatic animals living there that we don't know about.

Below is a You Tube video about the Loch Ness Monster.

From this video, it appears that there are eels in Loch Ness Lake, but perhaps that's not be the only thing there.
